Embracing the Christmas notions of giving and sharing, Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus (a registered charity in its own right) has announced it will be working with the Sussex Beacon Urgent Appeal to help them raise the £150,000 needed to keep their Inpatient Unit open. This association effectively means that every ticket purchased for either of the two Chorus’ organised shows scheduled for this coming December will not only provide priceless entertainment but will also help two fantastic causes!
PULL A CRACKER WITH BRIGHTON GAY MEN’S CHORUS
The biggest of these two shows, described by Chorus members as their most ambitious performance to date, has been rather aptly entitled Pull A Cracker with Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus. The curtain will go up on this fun-filled festive fund-raiser at 8pm on Sunday 11th December at the Brighton Dome Concert Hall.
Joining the boys on stage will be the award winning comedienne Zoe Lyons, cabaret artiste Lorraine Bowen and talented vocalist Jodie Spencer, along with a very special mystery guest. The Chorus and guests will be delighting the crowds with their own brand of pop, disco and festive favourites including classics like I Will Survive, O Holy Night and arguably the campest version of The 12 Days Of Christmas ever performed! Leading the Chorus in this most merry of yuletide celebrations will be the combined talents of it’s musical director Marc Yarrow, ably accompanied by Tim Nail and guided by West End director Carole Todd.
ANNUAL WORLD AIDS DAY CHARITY CONCERT
And if you were just beginning to think one concert is simply not enough, then you will be pleased to hear that Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus are again organising their annual World Aids Day Charity Concert on December 1st at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church, on St. James Street in Kemp Town. Joining them will be Qukulele, the LGBT ukulele band; the Rainbow Chorus, the long-standing, and only, LGBT chorus in the city; Resound, the all-male singers; and highly-acclaimed soprano, Red Gray.
This fundraising concert will start straight after the annual Candlelit Vigil at the Brighton Aids Memorial in New Steine Gardens, just 2 minutes walk away from St Mary’s Church. With a diverse musical repertoire, this will provide an opportunity to reflect on the losses many have suffered, as well inspiring those present to celebrate people living with HIV and AIDS.
As in previous years, all performers are donating their time for free and the entire profit of the evening (which last year raised almost £1,000) will be donated to the Sussex Beacon.
